There has been a great deal of discussion about whether the stock market will eventually start to sell off the Magnificent Seven. In June, as a group, their market cap dropped $2.3 trillion. Of course, the drop is uneven, but given how important they are to the market's incredibly long rally, it is a warning sign.

Where are the investors going? Mostly to the super-hot chip market. The FT points out that the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index is up 93% this year. The lead stocks in the index are Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA), Intel (NASDAQ: INTC), AMD (NASDAQ: AMD), Broadcom, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, and Micron Technology. In all, the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index contains 30 stocks.

The theory behind the rotation into “chip” stocks and AI data infrastructure stocks is that demand has risen sharply because AI-heavy companies like Alphabet, Microsoft, and OpenAI will invest well over $1 trillion in these data centers over the next two to three years.

The rotation poses a huge risk, given that AI data centers are being blocked by residents in communities where they may be built. This has moved beyond residents to elected officials at the town, city, state, and even federal levels. The opposition is based on a massive need for electricity, which can rapidly drive up residential rates. And, a very large data center can use five million gallons of water every day.

There is also a great deal of evidence that businesses are not getting a good return on the investments they are making in AI. While they believe that, in many cases, AI improves productivity, it does not increase profits and, because of its cost, it may erode bottom lines.

After a huge surge in value, the early darlings of the AI industry have faltered. Microsoft’s (NASDAQ: MSFT) price is down 23% this year. Its relationship with OpenAI made it an industry leader until the partnership fell apart. Its investments in AI, which have moved into the hundreds of billions of dollars, are deemed too high.

Too high. That may be where the chip business is headed. The drive toward AI growth is costing massive amounts of money. If that drive upward slows, the need for chips will shrink quickly.

Norway’s soccer fans guided Viktor Hovland to victory!

On Monday, June 29, the newly crowned winner of the Travelers Championship celebrated with his fellow countrymen — by doing the Viking Row.

In a video taken moments after the 28-year-old former Oklahoma State golfer bested Scottie Scheffler in a sudden death playoff — pushed to Monday morning due to a Sunday rain delay — Hovland joyfully participated in the World Cup-rooted tradition.

Moments after he drained a birdie and Scheffler couldn’t do the same, Hovland gave an interview, and then sat on a hill next to the 18th hole and rowed the imaginary Viking boat.

Hovland credited the Norwegian fans as one of the reasons why he was able to win his eighth tournament on tour.

"Obviously, it helps when you've got people like this cheering you on as well," Hovland said after the win. "So, yeah, it was a blast."

So was the back-and-forth between the Norwegian golfer and Scheffler, who briefly flirted with a 59 on Friday.

Entering the weekend, Hovland managed to catch up the 2024 winner of the Travelers, and he had a one-shot lead heading into Sunday.

As the final pair traded birdies and bogeys — and waited out a rain delay — Scheffler gained momentum and then capitalized with an eight-and-a-half-foot putt to send the tournament to a playoff.

With daylight fading, the playoff was scheduled for Monday morning. And Hovland quickly dispatched Scheffler in about 15 minutes of play just after 9 a.m. ET.

"Winning in the playoff against Scottie — best player in the world — that was pretty satisfying," Hovland said.

Audiences love to root for a bad boy, but it's one thing when the bad boy is a troubled teen from the wrong side of the tracks and something else entirely when he's a 1,000-year-old vampire responsible for the deaths of countless people. And yet, when Klaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan) visited Caroline Forbes (Candice King) on her birthday during *The Vampire Diaries*' third season, a new ship was born.

"Candice had chemistry with everybody, and Caroline, as a result, had chemistry with everybody," *Vampire Diaries* executive producer Julie Plec says in episode 3 of *EW's Binge: The Vampire Diaries*. But the writers had no idea when they were crafting that scene — in which Klaus goes to heal Caroline after he told a sired Tyler (Michael Trevino) to bite her — that it would become something greater. "I think that [scene] birthed the chemistry, as opposed to the other way around," Plec says.

From that point on, the Klaroline ship was a fan favorite, and although it led to many great moments on the series, it's one thing Plec admits would never fly today. "It's so toxic," she says. "That little romantic relationship would never get through a writers' room today because it's just unbelievably f---ed up, but boy was it good."

Vampire Diaries

Speaking of ships, during the podcast Plec also reveals the one relationship that she plotted for five years before realizing it wasn't going to happen. Specifically talking about the season 3 episode "The Reckoning," in which Matt (Zach Roerig) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) share some poolside scenes — and Bonnie saves Matt from drowning — Plec says those scenes gave her an idea. "I shipped Bonnie and Matt from that day, and in my head, the end of the series would be a flash-forward that Bonnie and Matt had gotten together and had a family," she says.

For years, Plec kept that idea in her back pocket. "I held onto that in my head until we were breaking the series finale and broke an entire version of the series finale that had that, that Bonnie found her happiness with Matt Donovan and they had everything they'd ever wanted, a family, a human family, and beautiful Bennett-Donovan children running around," she says. "And then we decided not to go into actual flash-forwards in the future. We jumped into peace instead." And just like that, Plec's idea died.

Several of The Big Bang Theory's nerdy friends ultimately found love and welcomed children — something the cast members have done off-screen, as well.

In the series, Howard and Bernadette welcomed two kids, Halley and Neil, and in real life, both actors — Melissa Rauch and Simon Helberg — have become parents, too. During the final season, audiences learned that Penny and Leonard were expecting a child, and both actors — Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki, respectively — have also become parents.

“I love her so much, I really do,” Cuoco told PEOPLE in January 2024 about her daughter, Matilda. “She is very funny. I think selfishly what I love the most is she finds me hilarious. I think she’s my best audience.”

In June 2026, Cuoco announced that she is expecting her second child with fiancé Tom Pelphrey.

Here's everything to know about the kids of the Big Bang Theory cast members.

Cuoco shares her daughter, Matilda, with her fiancé, Pelphrey — and has another little girl on the way!

In March 2023, she and her fiancé welcomed their daughter Matilda.

“Introducing, Matilda Carmine Richie Pelphrey, the new light of our lives!” Cuoco wrote on Instagram next to a picture of her daughter. “We are overjoyed and grateful for this little miracle 💓 Thank you to the doctors, nurses, family and friends who have helped us immensely over the last few days. We are blessed beyond belief.”

In June 2026, Cuoco shared a collection of photos showcasing life with her daughter, including playing tennis and dressing up as a superhero.

Days later, the couple announced they were expecting another child. Cuoco broke the news in an Instagram post, sharing a photo of her family surrounding a cake, which has “It’s a…” written in frosting.

“💖completing our little family , what a dream come true ! 💖,” she captioned the image. “This second time around journey has been a little windier in many ways , but wow we are so grateful for this moment!!”

She also revealed that their second child will be another girl. “Little sissy on the way!!!" Cuoco added. "@tommypelphrey girl dad for life.”

Just seven months after the finale, Galecki welcomed his first child with then-girlfriend, Alaina Meyer.

His son Avery was born in December 2019. Galecki shared the news with a photo of his newborn on Instagram, writing, “With full and grateful hearts we welcome our beautiful son into this incredible world. Thank you for all of your love and support. ❤️❤️❤️.”

In 2020, Galecki and Meyer split. Four years later, Galecki made two major announcements in his March 2024 Architectural Digest cover story, revealing that he had privately gotten married to Morgan Galecki and they had welcomed a daughter, Oona Evelena.

In October 2025, Galecki gave fans another rare glimpse into his largely private life when he shared images of his family at Disney World on Instagram.

"More unforgettable memories made @waltdisneyworld @disneyparks Such a perfect age for the Shorties. (And by “Shorties,” I mean the Wife and I.)" he captioned the pictures. "Thank you to all who made it so wonderful. And a special thank you to our new, profoundly talented friends.”

Simon Helberg’s two children

Helberg has been married to French filmmaker Jocelyn Towne since 2007. In May 2012, they welcomed their first child, daughter Adeline, followed by a son, Wilder, in April 2014.

In 2016, Helberg’s character, Howard, also became a dad on the show, and the actor told PEOPLE at the time that being an actual father helped him relate to his character.

“You bring everything you have in your arsenal to every character, so it’s helpful to have experience as a dad,” he said. “I’m sure the writers are gonna make him a pretty clumsy, inept father, which … sometimes it starts that way, so that I can also relate to. There’s a nice learning curve, so hopefully he’ll grow up a bit.”

Melissa Rauch’s two children

In 2016, Rauch’s character Bernadette became a parent alongside her husband, Howard. Just one year later, the actress became a mom in real life alongside her husband, Winston Rauch.

Rauch announced her pregnancy in a July 2017 essay for Glamour, reflecting on a previous miscarriage. “I know it’s made me grateful for every moment of my current pregnancy and I hope it will make me a better mother in some capacity when I can finally hold the child that has been in my heart in my arms," she wrote.

The actress ultimately welcomed her daughter Sadie in December 2017, followed by her son Brooks in May 2020, who was born during the COVID pandemic.

"His arrival was made possible, in no small part, by the front line heroes — the nurses and doctors who show up each day to make sure that life keeps marching forward, regardless of the circumstances," Rauch wrote on Instagram next to an image of Brooks’ baby cap. "Words can't describe how grateful I am to have this baby boy join our family, but to say that it is a surreal time to be bringing life into the world is an understatement."

Mayim Bialik’s two sons

In real life, Mayim Bialik is a mom of two. From 2003 to 2013, she was married to Michael Stone, and the couple had two sons: Miles, born in October 2005, and Frederick, born in August 2008.

In June 2021, while hosting an episode of Jeopardy!, she revealed that her son Miles encouraged her to try out for the gig. "As I start my second week of guest-hosting Jeopardy!, I want to thank my 15-year-old, Miles," Bialik said on the show. "He was the one who first suggested I give this a try and I hope I am making him and his little brother, Frederick, proud."

Despite having a PhD herself (just like her character!), Bialik has shared that being a mother can still present its challenges. Sometimes, she lets her kids know that she needs a moment to work through conflicts.

"What I learned to say to them is, I've never been your parent with you at the age you're at with me at the place I'm at in my life until this moment," she recalled on a December 2022 episode of her podcast, Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown. "So, give me a second, because I don't have all the answers."

He recently contributed to a digital commemoration for the late monarch

Prince William is reflecting on the special moments he spent with his late grandmother Queen Elizabeth.

Following her death in September 2022 , Queen Elizabeth is being commemorated in an evolving digital tribute in which members of the public and prominent figures are encouraged to share their thoughts on the iconic monarch.

In a short video tribute, the Prince of Wales, 44, recalled routinely having tea with the late Queen Elizabeth and her husband Prince Philip at Windsor Castle. He would often visit them when he was at nearby Eton College, in the town neighboring Windsor, for chats over tea and cake.

More recently, Prince William moved to live in the Windsor estate, with wife Kate Middleton and their three children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8.

In his tribute, Prince William revealed his “fondest memories” of Queen Elizabeth center on seeing her relaxing at home at Windsor Castle.

“Whilst I had the privilege to know the late Queen better than most, some of my fondest memories of my grandmother are from here in Windsor. I remember many a quiet afternoon, having tea with her and my grandfather at the castle, chatting, sharing stories, and seeing how completely at ease she was here, surrounded by family and her much-loved dogs and horses,” William said in the recording.

“To this day, she's given me a love of teatime that I never knew I needed. Watching her ride her horses in the Great Park, even well into her later years, showed a side of Granny the world didn't often see – off-duty, relaxed and utterly at home," he continued.

“These moments with my grandmother are ones I'll always hold dear," Prince William concluded.

The memorial is part of the commemorations of what would have been Queen Elizabeth's 100th birthday in April 2026. The monarch lived until she was 96 — a lifetime that included the longest-ever reign of 70 years. Her husband Philip died in 2021.

The digital memorial was launched on April 21, as King Charles and Queen Camilla viewed plans for a memorial in Queen Elizabeth's honor.

At the British Museum, the royal couple were shown a scale model of the planned memorial and statues of Charles' parents, as well as artworks and a short film featuring imagery of the designs.

On the day, Alex Holmes, member of the Queen Elizabeth Memorial Committee, told PEOPLE, it was "the culmination of two years of work" which saw them seeking opinions from around the U.K. about the best way to honor the iconic sovereign.

“We've spent a long time speaking not just to those who knew the Queen well but community organizations across the U.K.,” he said. “The memorial park in St. James's Park is going to be a really beautiful place that brings people together in the same way that the Queen did."

"She had that ability to bring people together whether it was intergenerational or from different faiths or communities," said Holmes.

Long before the Duttons hit the ranch, the wealthy Ewing family’s salacious drama was must-see TV. There would be no Yellowstone without Dallas, the 14-season soap that turned stars Larry Hagman, Patrick Duffy, and Barbara Bel Geddes into household names. It remains one of the longest-running primetime dramas in history (followed closely by its spinoff, Knots Landing, which clocked in at 344 episodes).

Set in the eponymous Texas metropolis, Dallas followed the Ewings, a powerful family of oil tycoons and ranch owners whose feuds and foibles made for wildly entertaining primetime viewing.

Fans tuned in every week to keep tabs on Bobby, Pam, and especially J.R. — the egotistical eldest son who always had a new trick up his sleeve, and whose schemes were the subject of some of the series’ most memorable episodes.

Dallas premiered on CBS in 1978 as a five-part miniseries and became a surprise hit, with the network ultimately ordering 13 additional seasons. It may not have competed for the same prestige as many of the era’s other primetime hits, but its compelling drama and trademark cliffhangers left a lasting impact on the TV landscape.

Thankfully, you won’t have to wait until next week to find out what happened to the stars of Dallas.

01 of 09

Larry Hagman (J.R. Ewing)

Larry Hagman as J.R. / Hagman in Dallas in 2012Credit: Getty(2)

Although Bobby and Pam were initially the main characters of Dallas, the scheming J.R. quickly became the breakout favorite. As Hagman once told Entertainment Weekly, “Everybody in the world’s got an a--hole like J.R. in the family.” In other words, he was the character everyone loved to hate.

J.R. was the only character to appear in every episode — most famously, the season 3 finale, “A House Divided,” which ended with the famous “Who shot J.R.?” cliffhanger. (J.R. would be shot three more times over the original series’ run.)

Hagman followed in the footsteps of his mother, renowned stage and screen actress Mary Martin, known for her collaborations with Rodgers and Hammerstein. Prior to Dallas, Hagman starred opposite Barbara Eden in the hit sitcom I Dream of Jeannie.

The Texas native appeared in a handful of films — including Mother, Jugs & Speed (1976) and even a bit part in Superman (1978) — and tried his hand at directing with Beware! The Blob! (1972), a low-budget horror sequel that has since become a cult curio.

Hagman reprised J.R. in five episodes of Knots Landing and three made-for-TV movie sequels. The veteran actor also lent his smooth-talking persona to Nixon (1995) and Primary Colors (1998).

In 1995, Hagman was diagnosed with liver cancer and received a life-saving transplant. In 2011, the actor was diagnosed with throat cancer just as production began on a revival of Dallas.

“The first thing I wanted to do was work,” he told EW at the time. ”Get my mind off this s---. If I hadn’t worked, I’d start to worry, and I never worry about anything. My motto is ‘Don’t worry. Be happy. Feel good.’ So work saved me.”

Hagman died in 2012 in Dallas at the age of 81, due to complications from myeloid leukemia. His wife of 58 years, Maj Axelsson, died a few years later. They had two children together.

J.R. was killed off in season 2 of the Dallas revival, though his final appearance was in the third season, which aired in 2014 and included previously unused footage of Hagman.

02 of 09

Patrick Duffy (Bobby Ewing)

Patrick Duffy as Bobby / Duffy in Los Angeles in 2019Credit: Getty(2)

Dallas gave Patrick Duffy his breakout role as the good-hearted Bobby, who often went toe to toe with his conniving older brother, J.R., and married Pamela Barnes, the daughter of a rival family.

Duffy exited the series to pursue other opportunities, resulting in Bobby’s death at the end of season 8. He surprised everyone when he returned in season 9 finale, which infamously retconned Bobby’s death — and the majority of the season — as a dream, angering both fans and fellow cast members alike.

“I had an answering machine message, and it was from Larry Hagman, saying, 'Patrick, I want you to come out to the house, get drunk in the jacuzzi. I want to talk to you,’” Duffy explained. “I told my wife that Larry was going to ask me to come back on the show… and I did it because Haggy asked me to."

In addition to several episodes of Knots Landing, Duffy spent the better part of the ’90s starring opposite Suzanne Somers in the TGIF sitcom Step by Step. He also had memorable guest spots on Diagnosis Murder and Party Down, and returned to soaps in 2006 with a role on The Bold and the Beautiful.

In 2011, the Montana native returned once again as Bobby, this time taking over the Ewing family business in TNT’s three-season Dallas revival. He continues to act, most recently appearing in episodes of NCIS and the BET drama The Family Business.

Duffy has two children with his former wife, who died in 2017.

Barbara Bel Geddes (Miss Ellie Ewing)

Barbara Bel Geddes as Miss Ellie in 1979Credit: Getty

Barbara Bel Geddes was the first actor cast in Dallas, in which she played Ewing family matriarch Miss Ellie.

A star of stage and screen long before she landed on Southfork, Bel Geddes earned accolades for her Broadway performances in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Moon Is Blue, and Mary, Mary. Alfred Hitchcock fans remember her as Midge, the still-loyal ex-fiancee of Jimmy Stewart’s tortured Scottie Ferguson in Vertigo (1958).

She picked up an Oscar nomination for I Remember Mama (1948) and scored major roles in Max Ophüls’ Caught (1949) and Elia Kazan’s Panic in the Streets (1950). Her career briefly stalled when her name was placed on the Hollywood blacklist in the ’50s.

The native New Yorker won one Emmy and picked up two more nominations for Dallas. Following a quadruple bypass surgery, Bel Geddes was forced to take a break from the show and did not appear in the seventh and eighth seasons. She was controversially replaced by Donna Reed for season 8, but later resumed her role as Miss Ellie through season 13.

The decorated actress died in 2005 at age 82. She was survived by her two daughters.

Jim Davis (Jock Ewing)

Thirty years before he played Ewing family patriarch Jock, Jim Davis landed his first major film role in Winter Meeting, sharing the screen with Hollywood icon Bette Davis.

By the time he was cast in Dallas, Davis had made a name for himself as a Western star, appearing in series like Tales of Wells Fargo, Laramie, and Gunsmoke. Rarely short of work as a big-screen ensemble player, his film credits include The Big Sky (1952), Rio Lobo (1970), Bad Company (1972), The Parallax View (1974), and Comes a Horseman (1978).

Davis’ final role was Jock. He appeared in 77 episodes before his death in 1981, at the age of 71, from multiple myeloma. He was survived by his wife Blanche Hammerer, whom he wed in 1949. His character was killed off-screen in a subsequent season.

Victoria Principal played Bobby’s on-again/off-again wife Pamela for nine seasons before she decided to exit the series. In 1987, she famously turned down a massive paycheck that included what Principal later described to EW as “a per-episode salary that would have made me the highest-paid woman on TV.”

Before Dallas, Principal was already a successful actress with roles in The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean (1972) and the blockbuster Earthquake (1974).

In later years, Principal started her own production company and produced and starred in a number of TV movies. In the ’80s, inspired by her interest in self-care, the actress launched her own skincare line and published three books on fitness, beauty, and health.

In 2004, she reunited with her former costars for Dallas Reunion: The Return to Southfork. The actress and entrepreneur has since left Hollywood behind.

“By the time I turned 50 I felt that I wanted to make a change in my life,” Principal told PEOPLE in 2018. “My interest had shifted in such a way that to not pursue my passion, which more and more really was my skincare company and creating products that could help many people.”

Charlene Tilton played J.R. and Bobby’s niece Lucy Ann, who was mostly raised by her grandparents, Jock and Ellie.

“I had no idea what I was doing when I was cast in Dallas because I was 17 years old,” Tilton told EW of her early acting role.

She credited costars Bel Geddes, Hagman, and Davis, whose “stellar work ethic” set a good example.

Tilton had previously made her big-screen debut with Jodie Foster in Freaky Friday (1976), and appeared in episodes of Happy Days and Eight Is Enough. She starred in Dallas from 1978 to 1985, and again from 1988 to 1990, while making time for guest spots in shows like The Love Boat and Murder, She Wrote.

Her later roles include Hallmark and Lifetime movies and the thriller Vengeance: A Love Story (2017), opposite Nicolas Cage.

In addition to the 2004 reunion special, Tilton returned as Lucy Ann in six episodes of the revival.

Linda Gray (Sue Ellen Ewing)

Dallas gave Linda Gray her breakout role as Sue Ellen, J.R.'s put-upon wife. She earned an Emmy nomination and two Golden Globe nods.

Prior to landing the part, Gray made small-screen history on the short-lived drama series All That Glitters, in which she played Linda, one of the first transgender series regulars on American television.

Gray left Dallas in 1989 after receiving two Golden Globe nominations and one Emmy nom for playing Sue Ellen. She went on to star opposite Sylvester Stallone in Oscar (1991) and became a fixture on TV, where she appeared on Melrose Place, Models Inc., and 90210. In 2001, she played Mrs. Robinson in the West End production of The Graduate.

Gray returned to Dallas for the series finale and TV sequels, and later reprised Sue Ellen in the revival.

She has two children with her ex-husband, Ed Thrasher.

Steve Kanaly (Ray Krebbs)

Steve Kanaly played Jock Ewing’s illegitimate son, Ray Krebbs, the foreman of Southfork Ranch.

Kanaly previously appeared in The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean with future Dallas costar Victoria Principal, as well as Steven Spielberg’s The Sugarland Express (1974) and John Milius’ Dillinger (1973) as Pretty Boy Floyd.

During his 11-year run on Dallas, Kanaly shared his experiences as a radio operator in the Vietnam War with Milius, the acclaimed screenwriter who was then writing the screenplay for Apocalypse Now (1979).

The Burbank native left Dallas in 1989, but returned for the series finale in 1991 and the TV movie Dallas: War of the Ewings. He also came back for the Dallas revival.

In the mid-’90s, the actor booked a handful of episodes of All My Children as the memorably named Seabone Hunkle. He also starred in The Last Chance Detectives, a series of Christian TV movies about a group of teen sleuths.

Kanaly and his wife have been married since 1975 and have two children.

Ken Kercheval (Cliff Barnes)

Veteran actor Ken Kercheval played longtime Ewing family rival Cliff Barnes, whose incendiary feud with J.R. was a major focus of the series.

Before Dallas, Kercheval was a Broadway star known for roles in Fiddler on the Roof, Cabaret, and Here’s Where I Belong.

Like Hagman, Kercheval remained on Dallas throughout its run and appeared in the reunion special and eventual revival. In 1991, he subbed in for Hagman in the TV movie I Still Dream of Jeannie, playing Anthony Nelson Jr.’s high school counselor and Jeannie’s new master.

The Indiana native only appeared in a few films — Network (1976) being the most notable — but was a fairly prolific TV star with guest spots on L.A. Law,In the Heat of the Night, ER, and Walker, Texas Ranger.

After beating lung cancer in 1994, Kercheval died of pneumonia in 2019 at the age of 83. He was survived by five children.

Callum Kerr was travelling on a Jet2 flight from Cyprus to Manchester when he was taken ill

A man who was restrained on a Jet2 flight by fellow travellers after he allegedly assaulted another passenger and cabin crew, has died.

Police were called to reports of a passenger attacking another customer and a staff member on the Jet2 flight from Cyprus to Manchester and being "disruptive and aggressive" in the early hours of Monday.

On landing at Manchester Airport, officers used handcuffs to detain Callum Kerr, 35, of Warrington, but quickly found he was "unresponsive" and performed CPR on him before taking him to hospital, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

Kerr, a bare-knuckle fighter, died on Tuesday. An investigation into his death is under way.

Paying tribute, Kerr's loved ones said: "Callum was a family man, father to three beautiful young children, a lover of sport and with a heart of gold."

GMP said it had made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to police coming into contact with Kerr prior to his death.

The force said officers were called shortly before 02:30 BST on Monday to reports of a man behaving aggressively towards passengers and crew on an inbound flight travelling from Larnaca to Manchester, and an assault of a passenger and a member of cabin crew.

Officers boarded the aircraft on its arrival and located Kerr, who was being restrained by passengers and aircrew at the rear of the plane.

'Witnessed violence'

GMP added: "Officers used handcuffs to detain him and quickly identified he was unresponsive, through the provision of first aid, and began with CPR."

Kerr was taken to hospital where he died the next day.

Ch Supt Mike Allen said: "An investigation is now under way to establish what happened during the flight and our specialist officers have been keeping them with all the information we know so far.

"I know there were many people on the flight who witnessed the violence and disruption prior to officers' arrival.

"We know passengers and aircrew worked to detain the man to bring the incident to an end.

"Our detectives are investigating this to understand the full circumstances."

"Support continues to be provided to the man's family and loved ones during this time," he added.

The IOPC said officers were being treated as witnesses, "rather than being investigated for their conduct".

It said its investigation would look at the actions and decision-making of the five officers who had boarded the plane, to understand the events surrounding the man's death.

The watchdog said it had begun gathering and reviewing evidence, including video footage from body worn cameras and initial statements from the officers.

Amanda Rowe from the IOPC said the investigaton would "focus on the actions of police, while a separate GMP investigation is considering the actions of the members of the public involved".

"We have been in contact with Mr Kerr's family to make them aware of our role and will keep them, and GMP, as our investigation progresses," she added.

A Jet 2 spokesperson said: "We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the customer's friends and family.

"As investigations are ongoing, it would be inappropriate for us to make any further comment at this time."
