A 35-year-old mother is facing criminal charges after authorities said she abandoned her infant daughter at an auto shop before returning with a knife minutes later.
Laraven Davis wheeled her 6-month-old daughter into a Jiffy Lube in a stroller on Oct. 24, according to television station WAGA. After speaking briefly with an employee about the child, Davis told staff members that she had somewhere to go and asked them to watch the baby.
Before walking out the door, Davis made a statement that immediately alarmed workers.
“The paperwork is in the bag…You guys can just have her if I don’t make it back,” Davis said, according to an employee who spoke to the station.
Workers called 911 as soon as Davis walked away. Staff reported that the infant was wearing a soaked diaper and had severe rashes across her body.

Davis returned to the shop roughly 15 minutes later, holding a knife and demanding the child back. Arriving police officers disarmed and arrested her on the scene.
Authorities charged Davis with child abandonment and reckless conduct. She remained held on a $4,620 bond.
Paramedics transported the baby to a nearby hospital for a medical evaluation. The child was subsequently placed in the custody of the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services.
