The Atlanta Dream are facing elimination from the WNBA Finals in Game 6 on Thursday. There has been a lot of discussion about the game being played in the afternoon, but it seems that the city is embracing the change. At least, they are trying to.
Considering that the crucial clash will take place at 12:30 p.m. ET on a weekday, it will be difficult for a lot of fans to make time to attend or watch it. Children have school, adults have work, it just isn't the ideal time for sports. But Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens and Angel Reese have asked for some grace.
There is no denying the fact that the Dream will need all the support they can get. After impressive wins in Games 2 and 3, they find their backs against the wall going into Game 6. Reese will need to have another big game, and having the crowd involved despite the timing will likely be a huge help.
As such, it isn't surprising that the 24-year-old has shared a letter on her Instagram from the city's mayor asking for leniency for the fans who will be tuning in. Here is a look at the contents of the letter.
"On Thursday, October 29, I'm asking you to show a little love and extend a little grace to your students and employees who may be cheering on the Atlanta Dream. Whether they're at the game or catching a few moments on their devices, please allow them to be excited to cheer on our home team.
"After all, Atlanta is a group project, and every Atlantan has a role to play! Our collective energy, enthusiasm and support are vital as we cheer the Dream toward a WNBA Championship!
"So don't make your students or employees sneak a peek at the game. Be the supportive leaders we know you are. Lean into this historic moment, embrace the excitement and let Atlanta show up for Atlanta! Do it for the A! Let them watch. Let them cheer. Let them DREAM! ONE TEAM, ONE DREAM!"
The Dream are chasing their first-ever WNBA title despite this being their fourth time in the Finals. It would be a huge achievement if Reese and her teammates can pull it off by winning the next two games. It's on Atlanta to show up despite the inconvenient timings now.
