Mary Trump Reacts to Donald Trump’s Self-Praise
Reacting to her uncle’s post, Mary Trump offered a humorous take on his deep self-love. Sharing the picture, she wrote in her post caption, “If you’re lucky, you’ll find somebody to look at you the way Donald Trump looks at himself.”
Her comments against his uncle align with the many interviews she has given over the years regarding their strained relationship. Mary, who is a clinical psychologist, has frequently described her uncle as an “extreme narcissist whose grandiosity stems from severe childhood neglect.”
In her book Too Much and Never Enough, Mary wrote that Trump‘s fundamental personality was formed early on, stating, “Donald today is much as he was at three years old: incapable of growing, learning, or evolving, unable to regulate his emotions, moderate his responses, or take in and synthesize information”.
She also argued that his mother was physically and emotionally absent during his early years. While talking about Trump’s father, Mary revealed that he was ‘cold’ and created an environment that had no genuine love.
Describing Trump’s endless need for self-praise, Mary noted, “Every time you hear Donald talking about how something is the greatest, the best, the biggest, the most tremendous, it is essentially the voice of a boy playing to an audience of one — his father”.
She also emphasized his lack of empathy, writing, “My uncle does not understand that he or anybody else has intrinsic worth,” explaining that for him, “there is no value in empathy, no tangible upside to caring for other people”.

Mary has made several shocking claims about Donald Trump’s mental and physical health as well. She alleged that he cheated on his SATs to get into college. She even accused his family of cruel behavior during inheritance issues.
