The 98th Academy Awards will include a special tribute to Rob Reiner.
Host Conan O'Brien was on hand to help roll out the red carpet at the Dolby Theatre on Thursday, March 12, where he spoke to Extra about the tribute, which he called "hard to sum up."
"But it's going to be a very powerful part of the show," he said.
During a press conference on Wednesday, March 11, Oscars producers Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan said the "in memoriam" segment will be longer than past ceremonies' to acknowledge the legends lost in the past year.
"I guess we can't really go into detail of what it's gonna be this year, but we really hope that it is a tribute that moves people and feels like it does the incredible people we've lost this year justice," Mullan explained.
Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were killed in their Los Angeles home on Sunday, Dec. 14. The Reiners attended O'Brien's holiday party the night prior on Saturday, Dec. 13.

Nick Reiner, the Reiners' middle child, was arrested the day after his parents' deaths and has since been charged with two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances, including the use of a knife. Nick, 32, has pleaded not guilty and has remained in custody without bail since his arrest.

During a February hearing, Nick waived his right to a speedy trial and is next due in court on April 29. He could face life in prison without parole or the death penalty if convicted.
While O'Brien did not provide further details about what the tribute will entail, he separately said he was up for hosting the Oscars again because of the "fun" he had previously.

"I had a lot of fun, to be honest with you," said O'Brien, who hosted the ceremony for the first time in 2025. "It's a really fun gig, and I had a lot of fun, and I just wanted to do it again. And then the movies this year have been insane. It was such a great year for movies that I'm excited to be even a small part of it."
Rob earned an Oscar nomination as producer of A Few Good Men. He also directed Kathy Bates' Oscar-winning performance in Misery.

The 98th Academy Awards will air live on ABC and Hulu on March 15, starting at 7 p.m. ET.
