During the Winter Olympics opening ceremony today, watchers may see a familiar face: Olympic snowboarder Shaun White. White, now 39, holds the record for most Olympic golds by a snowboarder, but he retired after the 2022 Olympics. This will be his first time at the Olympics as a commentator, not an athlete. "When I focus on what I'm not doing, I miss competing," White told ESPN this week. "But when I focus on what I am doing, I'm inspired. I still feel the glow of the career I had."
For those curious what Shaun White's retirement has looked like, here's what the snowboarder has been up to in the last few years
His brand, Whitespace
In 2022, White launched "Whitespace," an active lifestyle brand that sells snow gear and snowboards, among other things. "Whitespace came out of a moment of reflection for me—stepping back from competition and finally having the space to ask what I wanted to build, not just what I wanted to win," he tells Town & Country. "I'd spent my life chasing progression on the mountain, and I realized I wanted to bring that same mindset into creating something lasting: a brand rooted in craftsmanship, sustainability, and the culture that raised me. Whitespace feels like my way of staying connected to the sport I love, not as a competitor, but as a storyteller, a mentor, and a builder of what comes next."

His own snowboarding league, the Snow League

White launched the first professional snowboarding league called the Snow League, which held its inaugural event last March. "The Snow League is the future of winter sports competition," White writes. "The explosive moments, high-stakes risk, and human drama of snowboarding and freeskiing are just getting started. Around the world new superstar athletes are ready to rise."
It already has many key luxury partners; for example, Hublot serves as the official watch and timekeeper, and Jeep is the official automotive partner. The next Snow League event is later this month, on February 27 and 28 at Buttermilk, an Aspen Snowmass mountain.
A minority stake in Mammoth Resorts
In 2016, White joined the Mammoth Resorts' ownership team, and is still part of the group. "It's amazing that I'm now an owner of the mountain where I grew up riding," White said at the time. "As an owner I'll be able to make changes and shape the future of the mountain and how people enjoy it–whether they're beginners or professionals."
