The future of iconic heavy metal band Twisted Sister is uncertain after its longtime frontman, Dee Snider, announced he would be leaving the band after a "series of health challenges.""The idea of slowing down is unacceptable to me. I'd rather walk away than be a shadow of my former self," Snider said on his Instagram account, recounting his problems with degenerative arthritis. "I don't know of any other way to rock."

In a statement posted on Instagram on Feb. 5, Twisted Sister said shows between April 25 in Sao Paulo and through the summer were canceled "due to the sudden and unexpected resignation" of Snider.

The tour would've been the first for the reunited band in a decade and was to include three of the band's core members: founding guitarist (and longest-serving member) Jay Jay French, lead guitarist Eddie Ojeda and Snider, Rolling Stone reported.

US singer Dee Snider arrives for the Steven Tyler 4th Annual Grammy Awards Viewing Party, benefitting Janie's Fund, at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, California, on April 3, 2022.A career spanning decades

Snider joined Twisted Sister in early 1976. The glam rock band would become known for the 1984 album "Stay Hungry," which spawned the hits "We're Not Gonna Take It" and "I Wanna Rock."

The success of the songs drew the ire of groups like the bipartisan government committee, the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC), which eventually lobbied the music industry to place "Parental Advisory" labels on new music releases deemed as "vulgar."

On Sept. 19, 1985, Snider made an appearance in front of the PMRC during a Senate hearing where he pushed back against comments Tipper Gore made about the song "Under the Blade."

"As the creator of 'Under the Blade,' I can say categorically that the... only sadomasochism, bondage, and rape in this song is in the mind of Ms. Gore," Snider said.

Members of the reunited metal band Twisted Sister, A.J. Pero (L), J.J. French (2nd L), Dee Snider (C), Mark Mendoza (2nd R), and Eddie Ojeda (R) pose for photos before a press conference in New York on April 29, 2003 to promote upcoming USO tour.Hitting rock bottom and coming back

But the success of his music did not set up the singer for the rest of his life. In an interview with Fox News Digital back in 2024, the singer reflected on when he "lost everything" following the band's breakup in the late '80s.

"When you fall down like I did and lost everything — double bankruptcy, my career collapsed, I was riding a bicycle to a desk job, answering phones. ... You know, things just went incredibly south. People need to hear those stories and know they're not alone."

It's music's biggest night! The 2026 Grammy Awards kicked off with the premiere ceremony on Feb. 1 with winners like FKA twigs and the soundtrack for Oscar-nominee "Sinners." See photos from the big night. Darren Criss kicked off the premiere ceremony with plenty of music nerd jokes to start the night.

Snider revealed in a November 2023 episode of "Steve-O's Wild Ride!" that a turning point in his life was when his wife asked him to write her a Christmas song.

The tune made its way to Céline Dion, thanks to Snider's sound engineer, and she recorded the track and included "The Magic Of Christmas Day (God Bless Us Everyone)" on her best-selling 1998 album "These Are Special Times."

Snider, who owns the publishing rights to the track, said, "It was the only song I never wrote for commercial release, and it might be the most valuable song I've ever wrote."
