Major news for rock fans: Two of the most renowned guitar players of the '80s and beyond, Steve Vai and Joe Satriani, are heading out for their very first North American tour as the SatchVai Band.

The rockers are scheduled to kick things off on April 1 in Seattle. The tour, which is a continuation of the U.K. and European 2025 Surfing With the Hydra Tour, will run for 40 dates before wrapping up in Vienna, VA, on May 30.

"The SatchVai Band summer Euro tour of 2025 far exceeded anything I could have imagined," Vai, 65, said in a statement shared with Ultimate Classic Rock. "Joe and I struck pure jammin' gold night after night. Being in the same band with Joe, playing songs we actually wrote together on stage, in real time felt like watching a childhood fantasy step out of my teenage brain and stroll onto the stage. And somehow, it was even more rewarding, satisfying, and downright fulfilling than I ever thought possible."

Satriani, 69, expressed similarly enthusiastic feelings about the upcoming trek in a separate statement.

"The SatchVai Band rides again!" he said. "After a fantastic European tour last summer Steve, Kenny [Aronoff, drummer], Marco [Mendoza, bass], Pete [Thorn, guitar] and I will bring the Surfing With The Hydra Tour to the US. We can't wait to play you the new material from our forthcoming SatchVai album along with your favorite songs from our shared catalog. And that's not all, we're bringing along the incomparable Animals As Leaders. You do not want to miss this show with this lineup!"

Fans of the SatchVai band can also look forward to a new single, "Dancing," scheduled for release on March 2, along with a full-length album sometime in 2026.

Steve Vai developed 'trigger finger' by holding a guitar chord for too long

Vai has been open in the past about toll playing guitar has taken on his body, which required him to get surgery on his shoulder. Several years ago, he shared the story behind how he developed a painful condition known as "trigger finger" during an appearance on Tyler Larson's "Guitar Villains" podcast (per Blabbermouth).

"I was doing this fun thing, and I had to put my thumb in this really weird position," he said. "And I had to kind of hold this chord really for a long time — I was meditating on it. And I knew it was a hard position, and I just kept sitting there and playing it and playing and playing, and 20 minutes later, I'd kind of come out, and I [felt pain in my hand]. So I kind of sprained this, and then, all of a sudden, I developed trigger finger. My wife said, 'Don't show anybody,' 'cause they did that operation and they cut in there, and the guy's fooling around with everything in there, and it's really bizarre. But it's all fine — it's something very simple that they can fix. But I won't be able to play for a while."

Thankfully for fans, Vai's finger seems to be in working order once again.
