Trump taunts House Democrats on impeachment: 'Do it now, fast'

President Donald Trump on Thursday overtly urged Home Democrats whom he claimed are already hell-bent on approving articles of impeachment to get it over with already, so he might plead his case throughout a “truthful” trial within the Republican-controlled Senate.

The president’s message to lawmakers comes at some point after the Home Judiciary Committee heard testimony from constitutional students on whether or not Trump’s conduct justified removing from office, and less than an hour before Speaker Nancy Pelosi is scheduled to deliver a public update on the status of the Democratic-led inquiry.

“The Do Nothing Democrats had a historically dangerous day yesterday in the House. They haven't any Impeachment case and are demeaning our Nation. But nothing issues to them, they have gone loopy,” Trump wrote on Twitter.

“Subsequently I say, if you will impeach me, do it now, fast, so we will have a fair … trial in the Senate, and in order that our Nation can get back to enterprise,” he continued.

Prime White House officials and Senate Republicans agreed last month that the chamber should conduct a full trial and not dismiss out of hand impeachment articles if they're authorised by the House. White House counsel Pat Cipollone met Wednesday with GOP senators to additional plot strategy for the possible proceedings.

Trump has previously asserted that “frankly, I need a trial,” and demanded testimony by Democratic rivals including Home Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff, in addition to former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter.

“We could have Schiff, the Bidens, Pelosi and lots of more testify, and will reveal, for the first time, how corrupt our system actually is,” Trump tweeted Thursday. “I was elected to ‘Clear the Swamp,’ and that’s what I'm doing!”
