Rubio, Scott ask Trump to waive visa requirements for Bahamians

Florida Sens. Marco Rubio and Rick Scott requested President Donald Trump on Wednesday to waive some visa requirements for residents of the Bahamas, which was devastated by Hurricane Dorian.

In a letter to Trump, Rubio and Scott requested that the administration make it easier for citizens of the Bahamas to hunt shelter with their households in the USA, within the aftermath of the Class 5 hurricane that left no less than seven lifeless and devastated much of the island nation.

“Perhaps one of the crucial primary yet significant steps our authorities can take immediately is to make sure that those who have lost the whole lot, including relations in some situations, are offered the opportunity for shelter and reunification with family in america,” Rubio and Scott wrote.

Both senators also noted Florida’s robust ties to the Bahamas and stated Floridians “are keen to assist their household and pals in the Bahamas.” About 20,000 Bahamians reportedly reside in South Florida.

Hubert Minnis, prime minister of the Bahamas, stated Tuesday that the country was “within the midst of one of many nice national crises in our nation’s history.”
