DUBAI, Feb 23 (Reuters) - Iranian students defied authorities with protests for a third day on Monday, weeks after security forces crushed mass ‌unrest with thousands killed and as the United States weighs possible air ‌strikes against the Islamic Republic.

State media outlets reported students chanting anti-government slogans at Tehran University, burning flags at the all-women al-Zahra University, and scuffles at Amir Kabir University, all located in the capital.

Reuters also verified video showing students at al-Zahra University chanting slogans including "we'll reclaim Iran", but was not able to confirm when it was recorded.

In a new sign of ‌the mounting tension in the Middle East, the United States began pulling non-essential personnel and family members from the embassy in Beirut, a senior State Department official said.

U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened Iran since major nationwide protests across the country in January, saying on Thursday that "really bad things will happen" if talks between the countries fail to produce a deal.

Washington wants Iran to give up much of its nuclear ‌programme, which it believes is aimed at building a bomb, limit the range of its missiles to short distances and stop supporting groups it backs in the Middle East.

It has built up forces across the Middle East, putting increased pressure on Iran as it weighs its response to U.S. demands amid ongoing talks.

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah ‌Ali Khamenei already faces the gravest crisis of his 36-year tenure, with an economy struggling under the weight of international sanctions and growing unrest that broke out into major protests in January.

On Sunday ‌Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said negotiations with the U.S. had "yielded encouraging signals" even as a second U.S. aircraft carrier headed towards the Middle East.

Trump has not laid out in detail his thinking on any possible Iran strike. A senior White ‌House official told Reuters last week there was still no "unified support" within the administration to go ahead with an attack.

*Wednesday*'s upcoming season 3 is hosting a spooky reunion unlike any other. Winona Ryder has been revealed as part of a "new wave of insidious interlopers" joining the cast of Netflix's supernatural horror comedy.

The casting reunites Ryder with *Beetlejuice Beetlejuice* costar Jenna Ortega and her longtime collaborator Tim Burton.

The *Stranger Things *star will join the cast along with fellow series newcomers Chris Sarandon (*Dog Day Afternoon*, *The Princess Bride*), Noah Taylor (*Peaky Blinders,* *Game of Thrones*), Oscar Morgan (*A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms*, *Gotham Knights*), and Kennedy Moyer (*Task*, *Roofman*).

"It's our dark delight to fling open Nevermore Academy's gates once more as we begin production on Season 3," showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar said in a statement on Monday. "We thank our invincible cast and crew for their continued commitment to doom and gloom. To the fans, we appreciate your patience and ravenous online commentary — your twisted theories have inspired nightmares."

While the duo didn't reveal any details about what parts the guest stars will play in the season currently in production in Dublin, they added: "This season, we welcome new students, new teachers, and excavate some long-rotting Addams Family secrets. Don't say you weren't warned."

"I am so happy that Winona has joined us, she fits right into this world," Burton, who serves as director and executive producer on *Wednesday*, said in a statement. "And she's a dear friend. I always feel lucky to work with her."**** Burton and Ryder first worked together on 1988's *Beetlejuice* before reuniting for the 2024 sequel. They also collaborated on 1990's *Edward Scissorhands* and the 2012 animated film *Frankenweenie*.**** Netflix renewed *Wednesday* for a third season in August, just ahead of its season 2 premiere. "Our goal for Season 3 is the same as it is for every season: to make it the best season of Wednesday we possibly can," Alfred Gough said at the time. "We want to continue digging deeper into our characters while expanding the world of Nevermore and Wednesday."

The show's third chapter will tackle Enid (Emma Myers) having to navigate her fate as an alpha werewolf, Tyler (Hunter Doohan) taking advantage of the opportunity to live as a Hyde without a master, and, of course, Nevermore is going to need a new principal after Barry Dort (Steve Buscemi) was exposed as a con man.**

'Wednesday' season 2 ending explained: Who is Isaac Night — and what does he reveal about the Addams' dark past?

And, of course, there's the ever-growing lore surrounding the mysterious Addams family members themselves.**

One storyline that will be at the forefront of the upcoming season centers on Wednesday's Aunt Ophelia, who's been spoken about in hushed whispers throughout season 2. As previously announced, *Penny Dreadful* star Eva Green will make her debut as the mystifying Ophelia, who possesses similar psychic powers to Wednesday, as they're both psychic ravens.

"I'm thrilled to join the woefully twisted world of *Wednesday* as Aunt Ophelia. This show is such a deliciously dark and witty world, I can't wait to bring my own touch of cuckooness to the Addams family," Green shared when her casting was announced.**

Fans caught a glimpse of the character in the final moments of the season 2 finale, when a flower-crowned Ophelia shows up locked in Grandmama Hester's house. There, she's written on the wall: "Wednesday must die."**

Safe to say that it's not really the signs of a joyous family reunion in the making.

As revealed in season 2, Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and Ophelia have a complex relationship as Grandmama (Joanna Lumley) chose to send Ophelia away to Willow Hill after against Morticia's objections after an incident when Ophelia, who was a sophomore at Nevermore, was found "screaming in the quad" with "black tears running down her cheeks."

Ophelia eventually left the psychiatric facility, but her whereabouts have been a mystery for 20 years.**

"Ophelia has been gone a long time," Millar previously shared. "It's left a hole in Morticia's life, and a lot of unanswered questions. The re-emergence of Ophelia is going to hit this family like a bomb."

Netflix has yet to set a release date for *Wednesday* season 3, but Gough and Millar told Collider that season 3 would ideally premiere sometime in 2027.

Police in Nigeria say 38 people were killed and others were abucted in an attack last week in northwestern Zamfara state.

Authorities received intelligence before the attack Thursday but a lack of road access prevented police from reaching the area in time, state police spokesperson Yazid Abubakar told The .

"By the time we have our way, the assailants have invaded the community and killed 38 while also abducting many residents," Abubakar said Monday.

Investigators in the West African nation are compiling a list of women and children who were abducted, Abubakar said.

The attack in Tungan Duste, a community in the Anka local government area of Zamfara state, is the latest assault on civilians in Nigeria's northern region, where attacks are frequent. In nearby Kebbi, 33 people were killed in simultaneous attacks last week.

The African Union, which includes 55 member states on the continent, condemned the attack Sunday and called for the release of abducted women and children.

"The African Union unequivocally rejects all acts of terrorism and violent extremism against civilian populations, particularly women and children, as grave violations of human rights and serious threats to peace, security, and stability," the organization said in a statement.

Nigeria is battling a complex security crisis from different armed groups. The United States has sent troops to the West African nation to help advise its military on the fight against insecurity.

An East Coast blizzard is clobbering areas from New England to New York City to New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware with over a foot of snow driven by high winds leading to power outages and coastal flooding from this bomb cyclone.

This storm has been named Winter Storm Hernando by The Weather Channel.

(MAPS: Track The Storm Now)

Happening Now

Snow is falling at the rate of 1 to 3 inches per hour along the East Coast from New England to the Delmarva Peninsula, including Long Island, the New York City tri-state, and New Jersey.

This snow has been, at times, accompanied by lightning strikes, especially just offshore of southeast New England near Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket Island.

Parts of Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut and Rhode Island have already picked up over a foot of snow. A few locations have even topped 20 inches of snow, including Freehold, New Jersey, and Islip, Long Island.

(For More: How Much Snow Has Fallen?)

It's already New York City's heaviest snowstorm in five years, topping Winter Storm Fern's 11.4-inch total almost a month ago.

Winds have gusted up to 84 mph on Montauk, Long Island, and at least a dozen other locations have clocked at least 60 mph wind gusts, including New York's JFK Airport and Atlantic City, New Jersey.

The low-pressure system has intensified rapidly enough to be deemed a bomb cyclone. This nor'easter's central pressure plunged 40 millibars in 24 hours ending at 1 a.m. ET Monday morning, according to analyses from NOAA's Weather Prediction Center.

The map below shows where snow is falling right now.

(LIVE UPDATES: East Coast Blizzard Impacts)

Winter Storm Alerts

Blizzard warnings continue from the Delmarva Peninsula to all of coastal New England, including New York City, Boston, Hartford and Philadelphia.

It's the first time in nine years blizzard warnings have been issued for all five boroughs of New York City and the first time in four years blizzard warnings were issued for Boston.

Various other areas remain under either winter storm warnings or winter weather advisories, including the higher terrain of the northern Appalachians.

Forecast: How Much More Snow?

In general, the heaviest snow and strongest winds will last much of Monday in New England, but slowly diminish during the day in the mid-Atlantic states to the New York City tri-state.

That said, travel will continue to be either dangerous or impossible, in spots, through Monday in the area most impacted. Expect flights to be grounded and some smaller airports to close until conditions improve.

By late tonight, most of the snow should have exited New England.

The heaviest additional snow Monday will fall in southern and coastal New England.

This will leave widespread storm totals in excess of a foot from Delaware to at least southeast Massachusetts.

This will be a heavy, wet, "heart attack" kind of snow that will weigh down power lines, roofs and trees. Please take care of yourself while removing snow.

(MORE: "Heart Attack" Snow)

Snowfall forecast in addition to what has already fallen during the stormForecast: Wind, Coastal Flood Impact

Wind gusts from 40 to 75 mph will continue in coastal New England much of Monday before winding down later tonight.

From the New York City tri-state southward, these strong wind gusts will taper off by afternoon.

In addition to blizzard conditions, these winds are capable of downing wires and trees, leading to power outages for hundreds of thousands in the region that could last for a few days.

(MORE: How To Preserve Heat When Power Is Out)

These onshore winds will still lead to areas of minor to moderate coastal flooding with the next high tide from midday-early afternoon Monday, then again late tonight from southeast New England to the North Carolina's northern Outer Banks.

Has It Been Snowy This Winter?

Long answer made short, yes.

Let's get specific.

Prior to this storm, Boston has seen over 8 inches more than average with a snowfall total of 42.5 inches so far. This is significantly higher than the 28.1 inches the city saw last year. A lot of this snowfall came when Winter Storm Fern slammed the city, bringing a top 10 snowiest day on record.

(MORE: Winter Storm Fern Recap)

New York City, specifically Central Park, has seen 22.3 inches of snowfall so far this year before Hernando. Compare this to last year, where they saw only 12.9 inches.

Philadelphia has seen 16 inches of snowfall this year, double what it saw last year.

Kate Hudson proved once again that understated glamour never fails at the 2026 BAFTA Film Awards Nominees' Party in London. She stepped out in Ralph Lauren Spring 2026 RTW, and the actress delivered a look that was equal parts sharp, feminine, and undeniably chic.

Kate Hudson's Ralph Lauren fit is impossible to ignore

Kate Hudson opted for a striking black and white combination that felt modern yet timeless. The centre piece of the outfit was a sculpted, strapless black leather corset top. With its structured seams and subtle sweetheart neckline, the bodice hugged her frame perfectly, creating a sleek silhouette that balanced strength and elegance. The leather finish added an unexpected edge, giving the classic party look a contemporary twist.

She paired the corset with a flowing ivory pleated skirt that softened the overall ensemble. The skirt cascaded to the floor in delicate, airy layers, creating movement and contrast against the structured top. The mixing between the rigid leather and the fluid pleats made the look feel dynamic.

Hudson kept her styling polished and refined. She wore her blonde hair in loose, Old Hollywood waves swept over one shoulder, enhancing the strapless neckline. Her makeup featured glowing skin, softly defined eyes, and a neutral lip, allowing the bold black bodice to remain the focal point. Sparkling drop earrings added just the right touch of glamour without overwhelming the look.

At some point, she layered a tailored white coat over her shoulders, elevating the ensemble even further and reinforcing Ralph Lauren's signature sophistication. The addition of the coat made her look feel effortlessly luxurious as she arrived alongside her partner.

At the BAFTAs Nominees' Party, Hudson's outfit worked really well. Her "hair was throwback, but the jewelry and dress are modern," according to fans. She proved that sometimes the simplest colour palette creates the most powerful impact.

ALEPPO, Syria (AP) — Ramadan in the Arab world is a month of fasting and prayer by day — and television by night. For decades, families have gathered after the iftar, the evening meal that breaks the daytime fast, to follow the season's highly anticipated drama series, produced specially to air during the Islamic holy month.

In the week before Ramadan, a television crew in central Aleppo was busy preparing one of those productions, with a battered street in the historic city transformed into a scene from decades past.

Classic 1970s cars lined the curb. A horse-drawn cart rolled through the frame. A vendor in a red tarboush, a brimless cone-shaped hat, stood beside steaming pots of sahlep — a sweet, thickened milk drink flavored with spices and associated with winter evenings.

Just outside the camera's view stood a stark reminder of Syria's more recent history. Collapsed buildings and damaged facades testified to Aleppo's role as a major battleground during the country's civil war. However, with costumes, props and careful framing, the production temporarily carried the street back to what it portrays as a more innocent era.

The series being filmed — "Al-Souriyoun al-Aada," or "The Syrian Enemies" — is based on a novel that was banned during the rule of former President Bashar Assad. The story examines painful chapters of Syria's past, including the 1982 events in Hama, when government forces crushed an uprising led by the Muslim Brotherhood, killing or disappearing an estimated 10,000 to 40,000 people and leaving the city in ruins.

As filming continues into Ramadan, the production reflects both a cherished seasonal tradition and Syria's complex, layered history.
