July 3 (Reuters) - Largest U.S. power grid operator PJM said on Friday it was under a federal alert to cut electricity consumption across its territory as it battled generator outages, massive overloading on its transmission lines and a surge in air conditioning use from prolonged sweltering heat.

PJM said it told utilities to reduce electricity to customers who are under contract to reduce consumption during emergencies. PJM serves 67 million people in the Mid-Atlantic, South and Washington, D.C., area.

Spot wholesale electricity prices in northern Virginia, home to the largest collection of data centers in the world, have surged beyond $2,000 per megawatt hour this week. That compares to about $40 per MWh when PJM is not in distress.

The surge in prices is mostly because it has become expensive to provide power across congested high-voltage power lines, according to industry analysts and PJM's operations data.

LONDON, July 3 (Reuters) - Oil prices were steady on Friday and little changed for the week as traders held on to hopes that attempts to secure peace in the Middle East between the United States and Iran would succeed.

Brent futures were up 17 cents, or 0.24%, to $71.97 a barrel at 0932 GMT. West Texas Intermediate was up 2 cents, or 0.03%, at $68.71 a barrel.

For the week, Brent was essentially unchanged, and WTI was down around 0.8%.

Oil prices were under pressure as investors' hopes of a full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz were buoyed by peace talks between the U.S. and Iran, Commerzbank analysts said.

U.S. markets will be closed on Friday ahead of the U.S. Independence Day holiday on Saturday.

On Thursday, the two benchmarks hit their lowest levels since before the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran began in late February.

"The U.S.-Iran dealmaking process remains fragile but continues for now, as the question of Strait of Hormuz tolls and administration remains contentious," Citi analysts wrote on Friday.

"We expect the MOU (memorandum of understanding) to hold, not because trust has suddenly emerged, but because the incentives to break are poor for both sides."

Some shipping has resumed through the Strait of Hormuz, as called for under the initial U.S.-Iranian deal, but uncertainty is high after the two countries exchanged strikes last weekend following an Iranian attack on a cargo ship.

With the prospect of being able to ship more oil, Gulf producers are working to increase output.

Kuwait's oil production rose sharply to 1.65 million barrels per day in June from 580,000 bpd in May, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters on Thursday.

At least five supertankers carrying a total of 10 million barrels of Saudi oil have exited the Strait of Hormuz and Saudi Aramco has switched to spot pricing from longer-term contracts to speed sales in Asia, according to trade sources and shipping data.

"A sustained recovery in crude prices is more likely to materialise once the oil currently stranded on tankers and held in storage has been absorbed by the market, and if the recovery in production proves insufficient to offset the volumes currently transiting the Strait of Hormuz," said PVM analyst Tamas Varga.

As the availability of supplies grows, the market structure has turned from backwardation to contango, reflecting decreasing expectation of future shortages.

The spread between front-month Brent and six-month forward turned negative on July 1 for the first time in 2026.

Superstar entertainer Alyssa Edwards is generally accepted as an iconic gift sent down from Gay Heaven, but getting to a place of mutual adoration might've taken her *RuPaul's Drag Race* season 5 sisters on a trip to hell and back.

Franchise legends Edwards and crowned queen Jinkx Monsoon stopped by the latest episode of *EW's BINGE* podcast to click-clack down memory lane for an adoring recap of their time on the Emmy-winning reality competition series, with the latter recalling a hilarious moment between Edwards and fellow contestant Alaska that wasn't captured on camera.

"I think Detox, Coco, and Roxxxy were all filming their confessionals, so we had this rare moment where we were unsupervised," Monsoon tells *BINGE* hosts Joey Nolfi and Jillian Sederholm. "We were sitting eating dinner together, and it was almost midnight. Alyssa asks Alaska, 'What did you first think of me the first time you met me? Now we're good friends, but, like, what was your first thought?' And Alaska looked her dead in the eyes and said, 'I thought you were the devil.'"

The pair erupts in laughter while remembering the exchange, which Edwards clearly found amusing: "I looked at that lady and said, 'Now, girl, I go to church and I pray, and *that's* what you looked at me and thought?'" Edwards, a seasoned pageant diva and choreographer, continues with a laugh. "And she did tell me: 'You girls that are very seasoned in this pageantry world, it's intimidating!'"

Elsewhere in the episode, Edwards and Monsoon discuss their iconic *Snatch Game* performances (Monsoon's as Little Edie for the better, Edwards' as Katy Perry for the... well... let's just say she admits to EW she *thought* she was going to win the challenge and, uh, didn't), Edwards' rise through the ranks of superstardom, Monsoon's *very real* crush on eventual Miss Congeniality winner Ivy Winters, Edwards' notecard fumble that sank her comedy roast performance, and what became of Edwards' dress that was labeled as the ugliest in *Drag Race* history by then-judge Santino Rice.

Listen to Edwards and Monsoon spill all the season 5 tea in the latest episode of *EW's BINGE* above. New episodes are available every Thursday on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you find your favorite podcasts.

Bianca Del Rio and Adore Delano are one of the most iconic mother-daughter pairings in all of pop culture history, but the adorable spark that eventually ignited between them nearly set the entire *RuPaul's Drag Race* set ablaze during the first few days of filming.

The season 6 icons stopped by the latest episode of *EW's BINGE* podcast, where Delano revealed to hosts Joey Nolfi and Jillian Sederholm that, despite their love for each other now, she initially asked the crew to maintain distance between them.

"I remember telling the producers to keep Bianca away from me because I hated her," Delano reveals as Del Rio cackles in the background. "We didn't meet each other until the second day. I've never been wrong about my winners. I'm obsessed with the show, I always clock them.... as soon as I met Bianca, I was like, 'F—, Goddammit, she's winning!'"

The pair quickly became fan favorites across what's typically regarded as one of the best seasons in *Drag Race* history, and their friendship has since grown after the cameras stopped rolling. Hungry viewers, however, have often called for Del Rio — whom RuPaul ultimately crowned as America's Next Drag Superstar back in 2014 — to return to the set for a long-speculated winner's season, though the whip-smart comedian says such a comeback is unlikely.

"It's a different element," Del Rio observes of the show's evolution, as the Emmy-winning series has skewed its aesthetic toward a younger — yet no less spectacular — crop of queens in recent years, who've amassed large social media followings prior to competing. "First of all and foremost, I'll say it here, no one has ever officially asked me from [production company] World of Wonder.... in interviews I've always said no. Why would I go back to [the training ground of] high school? There's a reason each person won their season. It's a different vehicle. I don't think I'd be cast, I don't think I'd be interested in doing it now, because the game has changed... It's just a different world. So rather than saying I don't get it because I'm old, I'll say it's not for me! I don't think I'd survive this time around!"

Hear Del Rio and Delano spill more season 6 tea above, including their thoughts on Laganja Estranja's wild ride through *Drag Race*, Del Rio's attempts at "sexy" drag, the physical altercation that *almost* happened, and which queen trolled a friend by convincing them *Drag Race* only allowed the cast to eat yogurt during production. And be sure to stay tuned through the very end of the episode for Del Rio's very first "single" as a "recording artist."

*EW's BINGE* podcast on *RuPaul's Drag Race* — available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you find your favorite shows — returns Thursday with Trixie Mattel, Katya, and Ginger Minj for a full season 7 recap.

The director of the upcoming Murder, She Wrote film, Jason Moore, exclusively tells PEOPLE why he thinks Jamie Lee Curtis is the perfect person to take over Angela Lansbury's role

“You can take a wonderful character, you can put somebody wonderful like Jamie Lee Curtis in it, and if you have a great murder mystery, I believe we'll have a great movie,” he says

Lansbury portrayed Jessica Fletcher, a sharp-witted mystery writer and amateur detective, in the iconic show from 1984 to 1996

Director Jason Moore is promising that his upcoming Murder, She Wrote movie reboot is in great hands with Jamie Lee Curtis.

Angela Lansbury's iconic mystery series, in which she played amateur detective Jessica Fletcher, ran for 12 seasons from 1984 to 1996. Moore, who also directed Pitch Perfect and Shotgun Wedding, tells PEOPLE that the Freaky Friday actress, 67, is the perfect person to step into the shoes of the beloved character for many reasons.

“The point of Murder, She Wrote is every mystery was different,” Moore explains. “You can take a wonderful character, you can put somebody wonderful like Jamie Lee Curtis in it, and if you have a great murder mystery, I believe we'll have a great movie.”

Even though the long-awaited return to Cabot Cove was pushed back from Dec. 22, 2027 release date to Feb. 4, 2028, Moore says that he's already gotten to see some of Curtis' “magic” in person.

— sign up for PEOPLE's free daily newsletter to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.

“She's just always curious, always forward, always caring, always very loving,” he emphasizes. “She's got a wry sense of humor. She's the kind of person who will ask, not just the maître d', but the busboy every question. She stops people to talk to them. She's kind of like a nosy, curious person, which works well for a detective, it turns out.”

Jessica Fletcher, the character that Lansbury made famous more than 40 years ago, is a sharp-witted mystery writer and amateur detective who devotes herself to getting to the bottom of every crime she encounters.

“There've been a lot of detectives who've been played by multiple people over the years,” Moore says. “But I think one of the key things about Jessica Fletcher is that people would tell her things, they would confess things and tell her clues. And Jamie Lee Curtis is the kind of person, I swear to God, every time I sit down, I'm telling her some secret about my life.”

The director says that he immediately knew that her natural curiosity made her the best person to “get to the truth of a murder.”

“I don't want to say there's no boundaries, because of course there are, but she makes you feel like she's an open book, and to a great extent, she is,” he concludes. “There's things she always wants to keep private. Who doesn't? But that just describes it.”

Curtis confirmed the project herself in July 2025, telling Entertainment Tonight of the reboot: “Oh it's... happening."

“We're a minute away. But very excited. Very excited," the Oscar winner added. “But I'm tamping down my enthusiasm until we start shooting. I have a couple other things to hustle and then I'll get to enjoy that work.”

Sara Bareilles revealed "Love Song" was written as a defiant response to feeling pressured by her record label

The 2007 hit became a breakout success, earning two Grammy nominations and spending over 40 weeks on the charts

Bareilles said the song reflected her fear of losing herself in the music industry and her refusal to conform

For Sara Bareilles, "Love Song" was an act of rebellion.

Speaking with Rolling Stone about her breakout song on Tuesday, June 30, the singer and actress got candid about fearing she would lose herself after finding fame.

"It took me so long, and I don't regret the fear that I carried, because I think it made me cling to my own vulnerability," Bareilles, 46, told the outlet. "Telling the truth makes me feel safe. This no interest in artifice and telling the truth was something I clung to as a young artist, so I'm just going to tell you the truth."

When she sat down to write "Love Song," she did just that.

"When I wrote 'Love Song,' I was writing it to the record label thinking I was going to get in trouble because it was so obvious," Bareilles said. "I was saying, 'I'm not going to write you a love song,' and they didn't know. They didn't know! And I was like, 'What is this life?' It's wild."

Bareilles released her hit song in June 2007 as the lead single from Little Voice. The song rose to No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent more than 40 weeks on the charts. The track also earned her two Grammy nominations.

In a 2021 Glamour interview, the singer-songwriter set the record straight on the song's inspiration.

"The song wasn't a specific response to my record company. Nobody sat me down and said, 'I need this kind of song from you.' There was more of a subtle, nuanced… withholding. I was getting ready to release the first record, and I had a whole boatload of songs, so I was like, 'What's the deal? Let's get in the studio. Let's make the record.' There was a withholding of the green light," said Bareilles.

She continued: "I was encouraged to keep writing and to meet with co-writers. The co-writer thing was a total disaster, devastating on every level. I felt invisible and unimportant and manipulated and all the things," she continued. "But I knew — because I'm a smart person — that they didn't have a song they felt they could go to radio with. So I shifted to the idea of a love song."

Then, Bareilles said she wrote the song "so deeply specific to my experience," and she thought they would be angry with her — but it turned out to be the opposite.

"It was a response to feeling invisible and knowing that I wasn't going to be manipulated. I was so stubborn, especially at that age. I was so protective of myself — I wasn't going to do what they asked me to do. I wasn't going to wear the sparkly dress, I wasn't going to wear the high heels," she said. "In some ways, I probably wasn't having as much fun as I could have had. I was so concerned with losing myself, somehow, in the process."

Bareilles added that "Love Song" was her "little stubborn 'f--- you.'"

"The music industry, and the entertainment industry at large, can be a really toxic place. For someone like me who's prone to a lot of depression and anxiety and self-doubt, I know that I have to manage my mental state in a really rigorous way. I think I felt protective of myself, but the song ended up opening all these doors for me and taking me around the world," she concluded.
