CASEY Benjamin, an iconic saxophonist and member of the unique hip-hop band the Robert Glasper Experiment, has died at age 45.
Benjamin was a two-time Grammy Award winner who, alongside the Robert Glasper Experiment, collaborated with hip-hop greats like Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, and Nas.
Benjamin died on Monday, his management confirmed to Huff Post.
A reason for demise was not immediately offered.
Bandmate Derrick Hodge, who played the electrical bass alongside Benjamin, pianist Robert Glasper, and drummer Chris Dave on the Robert Glasper Experiment, mourned Benjamin's dying in a social media publish.
"Tonight, I honor a brother… Casey Benjamin, thank you for inspiring me, for being a light-weight in my life, and on your unbelievable influence on the music world," Hodge wrote.
"And we'll collectively honor and carry your legacy with us.
"Can't get my words collectively at this second but will echo a number of of my last phrases for you: I'm grateful for you and love you all the time! Rest properly, King."
Born in Queens, New York, Benjamin first started enjoying the saxophone when he was just 8 years previous.
From there, Benjamin studied at the Harlem Faculty of the Arts and Fiorello H. LaGuardia Excessive Faculty of Music and Art, in accordance with New Musical Express.
He later continued learning at The New Faculty for Jazz and Modern Music.
All through his career, the musician labored with several legendary artists including Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige, John Legend, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, and more.
Benjamin gained two Grammys as a member of the Robert Glasper Experiment.
In 2013, the hip-hop group gained Greatest R&B Album for Black Radio.
Two years later, they took house the award for Greatest Traditional R&B Performance for Jesus Youngsters.
Many artists and musicians who collaborated with Benjamin through the years shared their condolences and sorrow over his demise on social media.
"Relaxation In Peace Casey Benjamin," rapper Lupe Fiasco wrote on Instagram.
"I can't even start to precise the deep gratitude and respect. My deepest condolences to the family, fans and pals."
"Relaxation in peace Casey Benjamin," songwriter and composer Sinkane wrote in a post to X, previously often known as Twitter.
"We've lost one of the biggest musicians of our time. I will all the time love you and miss you, my good friend."
Questlove, the drummer for The Roots, also shared his admiration for Benjamin and the Robert Glaser Experiment
