The flight, from Tel Aviv, was diverted north to the New York Stewart Worldwide Airport.

Individuals onboard the flight have been stated to have complained of nausea and chest pains because of the turbulence.

United Airways confirmed the incident late on Friday, telling aviation information outlet Easy Flying: "On Friday, United flight 85 landed at Stewart Worldwide Airport (SWF) after reported excessive winds at Newark.

"One passenger deplaned resulting from a medical incident, and a few different clients have been seen by medical personnel for attainable movement sickness.

"The flight refueled and continued to Newark tonight."
