You can't trust everything you hear. But people sometimes talk with such confidence that it's hard not to believe them. Not that they're necessarily trying to mislead anyone—although, in certain cases, they might be—but most of us simply don't have the time to double-check every claim we come across. And that's exactly why some myths keep circulating for years even after they're debunked. Recently, Reddit user Quiet-Grief asked everyone on the platform to share false "facts" that many still repeat as if they're common knowledge. The answers that came in highlight just how slippery the "truth" can be.

"We only use 10% of our brains." Apparently that's not true at all …where did that myth even come from?oppernaR:It's like saying you're only using 10% of your car if you're not stepping on every pedal, opening and closing all the windows and doors and using every light, windshield wiper and indicator at once.

"Other countries pay the tariffs".Opposite_Bag_7434:This is a generalization at best. A tariff applies to a country of origin typically, and can apply to certain goods. Who pays can vary, sometimes it is the exporter and sometimes it is the importer. But it is not "the country" that pays in either case

That the lifespan of humans is much, much longer now than in the distant past. The *mean* lifespan of humans is now longer than in the past because so many fewer of us die in infancy. But hundreds or even thousands of years ago, if you made it past early childhood, you were NEARLY as likely to live to 70- or 80-something as you are today. People tend to think that since the "average" in say, Biblical times, was something like 40 (give or take), that most people died around 40 years old. In reality, most people died either before their first birthday, or in their 70s. We largely eliminated the infant mortality rate, thus raising the average, but the "lifespan" of a human is only a little longer than it has been for centuries.

Valerie Bertinelli says posing nude for the cover of Getting Naked, her new book, "feels better" than her famous 2009 green bikini cover of PEOPLE.

She calls her new book cover "my stupid bright idea" but also says she had fun doing it.

"I've got this weird quirk that if I'm afraid of something I'm going to walk right through it. And I did," Bertinelli says.

Valerie Bertinelli calls posing nude for the cover of her new book Getting Naked "my stupid bright idea," but she admits, it was also kinda fun.

"Because getting naked emotionally was the most important part of the book, I thought 'Well, I might as well expose myself there too,'" the star tells PEOPLE in this week's cover story.

"Part of me also feels like at this age, if I can look good, do it," she laughs. "And I don't know what I'm going to look like when I'm 80 but at 65 it looks pretty f---ing good. I think you're allowed to feel good about yourself. I have felt bad about myself for too many decades. I'm going to feel good about myself now."

It's a new freedom for Bertinelli, a world away from her famous 2009 bikini photo after she lost some 40 pounds via Nutri-System (she was then a spokesperson) and a much talked about PEOPLE cover.

"I was a good 20 pounds thinner and my body was definitely tighter but I think it felt better doing this," she says of her new book cover. "I'm never going to do it again but it was fun to try it once. I've got this weird quirk that if I'm afraid of something I'm going to walk right through it. And I did."

Her approach to exercise has also changed in recent years. "I'm trying to do some upper body exercise because my luggage is so heavy when put it it in the overhead compartment. (Especially with her frequent trips to New York as part of the "Drew Crew" on The Drew Barrymore Show.) I don't want anybody to help me. So now I stretch or work out because I want to move differently, Not because I want to look differently."

Her honesty in recent years via social media about her struggle for self acceptance has forged a new connection with many of her fans. "I know it's too much for some people and that's okay," she says. "If I can help someone, isn't that what we're here to be? A community of people that helps each other and get through the hard stuff?"

Valerie BertinelliCredit: Courtesy Valerie Bertinelli

That conversation also led to her launching a community of her own with her new digital platform Valerie's Place. "It's an app you download," she explains. "You're going to get three cooking shows, a podcast, a book group. l'll do some live cooking shows. A lot of people can come onto my kitchen and cook with me because I've missed that a lot."

Take PEOPLE with you! Subscribe to PEOPLE magazine to get the latest details on celebrity news, exclusive royal updates, how-it-happened true crime stories and more — right to your mailbox.

Getting Naked by Valerie Bertinelli comes out March 10 and is available for preorder now, wherever books are sold.

Luke Grimes is looking back at that very awkward time he hit on Drew Barrymore and her *Charlie's Angels *costar Cameron Diaz at a Hollywood bar.

The *Yellowstone* and *Marshals* actor refreshed the talk show host's memory of the first night they met on Friday's episode of *The Drew Barrymore Show.*

"You wanna hear something crazy?" Grimes asked after he took his seat in the studio. "We've met before."

Barrymore, a self-described *Yellowstone* superfan, seemed shocked by Grimes' revelation and quickly pressed him for details.

"This story is gonna make me sound terrible. This is, like, 20 years ago," he prefaced. "I'd just moved to L.A., and do you remember that club Teddy's?"

After Barrymore confirmed that she was familiar with the bar, Grimes set the scene.

"You were there with Cameron Diaz, and a friend of mine was daring me to go up to women and say pickup lines," he said, "and he dared me to come up to you two and do it."

His flirtatious advance received mixed reviews.

"I forget what line it was, but I did, and Cameron hated it," Grimes recalled — to which a laughing Barrymore responded, "That tracks."

He told Barrymore that she was much more receptive to his attempt. "You were like, 'That's actually pretty cute,'" Grimes said. "And you were nice about it, so thank you. You didn't totally reject me. I just… Thank you for being nice to me."

An overjoyed Barrymore quickly pulled Grimes into a hug before taking a moment to commend him for his bravery.

"By the way, thank you for even trying to fake a pickup line!" she exclaimed. "Because … if there's any men out there, you can fake-pickup-line me whenever!"

While Grimes' flirting may not have worked on Barrymore or Diaz, the actor has since found love. He married his wife, Bianca Rodrigues Grimes, in 2018, and the couple welcomed their first child together, a son named Rigel, in 2024.

Diaz is also taken after marrying Good Charlotte musician Benji Madden in 2015. The couple, who began dating in 2014, are parents to daughter Raddix and son Cardinal.

Barrymore is currently in her single era following her divorce from Will Kopelman — with whom she shares two daughters, Olive and Frankie — in 2016. The host often talks about her dating experiences on her show, from getting ghosted by a man to thinking that she was going to be killed on a first date.

The Godmother of *The View* has invoked *The Godfather* as the talk show's cohosts slammed recently ousted Department of Homeland Security head Kristi Noem.

Joy Behar referenced an ominous quote from the Francis Ford Coppola-directed classic as the cohosts celebrated Donald Trump firing Noem on Thursday amid growing protests of her handling of immigration raids across the United States.

"Who's next? Who's next!?" Behar exclaimed as her colleagues discussed Noem's firing, which Trump announced earlier this week.

"To save face, to give her some elegant exit, he's naming her, Kristi Noem, special envoy to the Americas to the western hemisphere," panelist Ana Navarro said, referencing the title Trump said he'd soon bestow upon Noem. "This is a woman who doesn't know the country of Venezuela from the Dodger pitcher Fernando Valenzuela."

Behar smiled as she later quipped, "You know, in the words of *The Godfather*, you won't see her no more."

The 83-year-old quoted a memorable scene from the mob epic that features James Caan's Sonny Corleone looking into the whereabouts of treacherous Corleone chauffeur Paulie (Johnny Martino), only to be met with a grim response: "You won't see him no more."

Later on *The View*, Sunny Hostin pointed out that Noem's new position would require her to oversee areas that included lots of sandy beaches, to which she responded, "What is she doing? She's securing the whales?"

As the show went to a commercial break, Navarro turned toward the camera to reference another classic movie, 1995's *Friday*, as she delivered "the last word" on Noem: "Bye, Felicia! Don't let the door hit you where the good lord split you!"

The show's panel has long criticized Noem for her handling of immigration raids in the country, though returning guest cohost (and former permanent panelist) Elisabeth Hasselbeck defended her and the Trump administration through the controversy.

*The View* airs weekdays on ABC.

The Bride! is now in theaters

Christian Bale and Jessie Buckley were kindred wild spirits while making The Bride!

The pair star in Maggie Gyllenhaal's bold reimagining of The Bride of Frankenstein, with Buckley as the titular bride and Bale as her monstrous suitor. As the two actors tell PEOPLE, they developed a close bond over the course of making the 1930s-set thriller together.

"You get this beautiful insanity in what we do," Bale, 52, says of collaborating with Buckley, 36, on the project while seated next to the Hamnet star. "And when you get a like mind who loves maniacs... I think you love maniacs," he adds, directing his focus to his costar who nods in approval."I think that maniacs are the best people on earth, and she's a maniac," says Bale."You're a maniac," Buckley responds with a smile."I'm a maniac," Bale confirms."Maggie's a maniac," adds Buckley.

Continues Bale, "And when you see that, you go, ah, right, there's no limits here. And you can have wonderful restraint with that and holding it back, but then you know you can let it go and there's nobody judging you for that. And it's an enormous liberation."

For Gyllenhaal's second movie as a director following 2021's Oscar-nominated The Lost Daughter, the actress-turned-filmmaker, 48, reunited with Bale 18 years after playing doomed lovers in The Dark Knight.

Gyllenhaal tells PEOPLE that despite working "closely" with Bale on the Christopher Nolan blockbuster, in which she played Gotham District Attorney Rachel Dawes opposite Bale's Bruce Wayne/Batman, she felt like she was meeting the actor "anew" as his director.

The Bride!Credit: Warner Bros. Pictures

"I really liked him, and making that movie was amazing, but it wasn't nearly as intimate as what was required here," Gyllenhaal says, comparing the experiences. "And so even when I called him and offered him the part ... I mean, it had been so long since we'd worked together, I felt like what we needed to even immediately start talking about and thinking about and discussing and feeling together was so much deeper than what we'd gotten into the last time. Even the first phone call felt like a whole new thing."

The Bride! also stars Peter Sarsgaard, Jake Gyllenhaal, Penélope Cruz, Julianne Hough, John Magaro and Annette Bening. The movie is in theaters March 6.
